Just a few thoughts about the games we watched yesterday...
- Through 2 games, Russell Wilson has 610 yards, an 82.5% completion rate, 9 TDs and 1 INT, with a QB rating of 140.00. (87.4 QBR using ESPN's formula) Maybe we stop overlooking this guy when we list the absolute best QBs in the game? He isn't flashy, but Russell Wilson can flat out sling a football... - The New York Giants will be without stud RB Saquon Barkley for the rest of the year, as it has been confirmed he did in fact tear his ACL...Things are about to get VERY interesting for their young QB Daniel Jones...Eli Manning might be a little grateful the Giants essentially retired him, because this looks like it could be a LONG season for the G-Men without Barkley... - How bout dem Cowboys? Either the times are a-changing in Dallas without Jason Garrett, or the Atlanta Falcons just showed us that not everything in 2020 is completely upside down...the Falcons blowing huge leads is a sign of normalcy, isn't it? - That was seriously one of the strangest onside kick trajectories I've ever seen. - Speaking of signs of normalcy, the Green Bay Packers destroyed my Detroit Lions, thanks in large part to Lions defenders committing DUMB penalty after DUMB penalty (see my rants in the Week 2 Schedule thread from last week), giving cause for me to invent the hashtag #FatJimSchwartz (at least I think I invented it). This lifetime Lions fan wants to see Matt Patricia shown the door ASAP. Today would be nice. Last week would have been better. - I take back any negative comments I may have made about Justin Herbert before the NFL Draft. After Tyrod Taylor went down, Herbert gave the world champion Chiefs as much as they could handle, and then some. That was one of the best rookie debuts at QB I have ever seen. The Chargers have announced Taylor is still the starter, but after what Herbert did against the Chiefs, Tyrod's leash just got a lot shorter. He struggles at all, the Chargers will have no problem pulling him for Herbert. - Really? You have 1 yard and time for only one play to go to score a touchdown to beat the Seahawks, and you put Cam Newton in a shotgun, making him have to run 5 yards just to even get back to the line of scrimmage? WTF kind of horrible idea was that? Hindsight is 20/20, but seriously, why would you put Newton farther away from the goalline to start, if you are going to QB sneak it? Surely Cam Newton can do the Tom Brady QB Sneak play over the center too...1 yard is a lot closer than 6 yards... - Speaking of Cam Newton, while the Patriots are 1-1, so far, Newton has looked just fine. I think the concerns over his injury have been nullified, and if he keeps playing the way he has so far through two weeks, he is going to get a big fat contract over the offseason from someone. Maybe even NE... - Might watch MNF instead of RAW tonight. SHOCKING I know, but honestly, normally, I will watch wrestling over MNF, unless the matchup is really compelling. Saints/Raiders? Breaking in a brand new stadium, in a brand new NFL town? Pretty compelling. - Josh Allen has 729 yards through two games. Fluke, based on playing Jets and Dolphins, or is the Bills offense seriously trying to imitate Marv's K-Gun offense that Jim Kelly ran, and we can expect more of that? Because honestly? The Bills bringing back the no-huddle K-Gun could be quite fun to watch... - The Browns won the Ohio turd bowl. Yippee. - So, in one game, the 49ers lose Garoppolo, Mostert, and Bosa? OUCH. - Tom Brady didn't look quite so old against the Panthers as he did against the Saints. ***UPDATED to include confirmation of Saquon Barkley's ACL tear***
